Sir Richard Branson joined Jean Oelwang, CEO of Virgin Unite, to talk with BBC One about their mission to make business a driving force for social, environmental and economic benefit.
Branson and Oelwang advocate that business can address problems in ways not possible for governments or not-for-profits acting alone, and that all these parties need to collaborate to get on top of these problems. This viewpoint would lead Branson and the Virgin Unite Foundation soon after this interview to become Founders of The B Team Founders Circle.
And it's not just a matter of helping people and the planet. Branson argues that, with growing public awareness of and concern about how businesses operate, it makes "good business sense" for businesses to prioritize the creation of social and environmental benefit as highly as the generation of profit.
