Jochen Zeitz and John Elkington: Tomorrow’s Bottom Line

As part of a blog series produced by The Huffington Post and The B Team, Jochen Zeitz, Director of the board’s sustainable development committee at Kering and B Team co-founder, along with John Elkington, Executive Chairman of Volans and B Team Advisor, argue that Earth Day 2015 should focus on tomorrow’s bottom line, a new form of accounting in business.

Together they describe this new form of accounting in which reporting on the financial bottom line is integrated with reporting on human, social, cultural and natural capital, in order to give comprehensive picture of a business impact on the environment and society.

They acknowledge, that at first glance some of the information uncovered in this form of accounting is something that corporations may want to keep hidden, but that in fact there are incentives for business to govern themselves in a way that allows them to lead and take responsibility for all of their business impacts.
